No need for sophisticated software. Need for decision and discipline.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the SMEs we meet do not have indicators or if the data exists, the managers do not use it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>1. Why SMBs Struggle with KPIs<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three mistakes to avoid when implementing KPIs:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Too many KPIs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  KPIs (key performance indicators) must be aligned with the company&#8217;s strategic directions. A dozen well-chosen indicators on a dashboard is usually an ideal number \u2014 enough to see the big picture, without creating a dispersion in priorities. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ownerless KPIs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : If no one is responsible for an indicator, no one will take steps <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to improve it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>KPIs consulted, not used<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : a KPI that does not influence any decision has no added value.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>2. The 5-step method to implement your KPIs<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Step 1 \u2014 Choose 3 to 5 indicators maximum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  : Ask yourself: if I could only look at 5 numbers this morning, which ones would I choose? These are your KPIs. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Step 2 \u2014 Name an owner by KPI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : the person who has the authority and resources to take action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Step 3 \u2014 Set a realistic target<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : Based on your historical data and an achievable goal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Step 4 \u2014 Display visually<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  : A board on the wall, a screen in the studio, a tab always open. Visibility creates accountability. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Step 5 \u2014 Review in a short meeting each week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  : 15 minutes. Each owner says: green, yellow or red.
